Lauderdale Release Date Meanings
Three milestones often appear close together but answer different questions. A Release Eligibility Date, often called RED, marks when the law may allow consideration or a stated release mechanism. An actual release date records when physical custody ends. Sentence expiration or discharge marks when the sentence ends. A person can leave prison on parole before sentence expiration and remain under TDOC supervision.
FOIL may display sentence and release information, but TDOC does not promise the same date labels on every public record. Copy the exact field name. Never rename RED as a guaranteed release date. A Board of Parole grant is also not the jail or prison exit time because release-plan approval and other conditions may remain.
- Eligibility date
- The point when a legal release process may become available.
- Actual release
- The recorded end of physical custody with one agency.
- Sentence expiration
- The end of the sentence, which can occur after parole begins.
- Detainer
- A request or hold that may lead to transfer to another authority.
Find Lauderdale Release Date Records
First identify where the person is held and whether the case has reached sentencing. Lauderdale County Jail handles local pretrial and short-sentence custody. West Tennessee State Penitentiary and Women's Therapeutic Residential Center are TDOC state facilities. The correct channel depends on that status, not simply on the facility being inside Lauderdale County.
- Confirm the last custodian and collect full name, date of birth, case or booking number, and TOMIS or TDOC number when available.
- For a state prisoner, search TDOC FOIL and preserve every status and date label exactly.
- For an unclear felony calculation, use TDOC Sentence Information and choose the state-prison or county-jail felony branch correctly.
- For a local pretrial or misdemeanor matter, call Lauderdale County Jail and request the booking or release record, then obtain the court order.
- Check consecutive sentences, jail credit, retained or lost credits, detainers, and Board action before treating a projected date as stable.
FOIL covers current and former felony offenders in TDOC custody or supervision. It does not cover every person who leaves Lauderdale County Jail. Someone who bonds out, serves a jail-only misdemeanor term, or never enters TDOC supervision may have no FOIL record. In that case, the sheriff and court are the primary custodians.
Lauderdale FOIL Date Lookup
Search FOIL by first and last name with the available matching controls, or by TOMIS, TDOC, or State ID. Complete the CAPTCHA. Open a result only after matching birth details, photo, offense, location, and identifier. An incarcerated status means the person remains in state custody even if they disappeared from a county view. Parole or probation means the person is outside prison under supervision. Inactive requires closer review of the dates and sentence fields.
The official FOIL overview says results may include photo, status, location, offense, sentence information, parole-hearing status, and release information. The word may matters. Missing dates are not proof that no date exists. Use Sentence Information or an archived-record request when the public display is incomplete.

The form is a search entry point, not a calculator. A matched result's exact status and field names determine what can safely be said.
| FOIL result | Safe interpretation | Follow-up |
|---|---|---|
| Incarcerated | Still in TDOC custody | Check listed location and sentence details |
| Parole | Outside prison under conditional supervision | Compare date fields and Board record |
| Probation | Under court-ordered community supervision | Retrieve the sentencing order |
| Inactive | Former or otherwise inactive TDOC record | Inspect dates and request clarification |
| No result | Inconclusive outside FOIL scope | Use sheriff, court, or another custodian |
How Tennessee Computes Release Dates
TDOC is the official state timekeeper. Tennessee Code section 40-35-501 sets release eligibility rules that vary by offense, offense date, sentence range, and special classification. Section 41-21-236 governs sentence-reduction credits. Credits must be earned and retained under statute and policy. They are not a universal subtraction from every sentence.
Do not say that every Tennessee prisoner serves 85 percent. Some listed offenses and date ranges use 85-percent rules, while others can require 100 percent and ordinary range calculations differ. The 2022 Truth in Sentencing Act, Public Chapter 988, changed rules for specified offenses committed on or after July 1, 2022. Later effective-date provisions also matter. The offense date and controlling subsection must be matched before applying a percentage.
For some offenses committed from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2024, subsection 40-35-501(y) describes 85 percent less retained credits, but not below 70 percent. The treatment changes for specified offenses on or after July 1, 2024. Life sentences and certain violent or sexual offenses have added rules. Some credits can affect parole eligibility without changing sentence expiration.
This is why a calculator based only on sentence length is unsafe. The judgment, offense date, sentence range, classification, consecutive terms, jail credit, earned and lost credits, and any detainer must be reviewed together. Ask TDOC Sentence Information to explain the calculation maintained in the official record.
Lauderdale Sentence Information Channels
The TDOC Sentence Information request explicitly separates a felony offender in state prison from a felony offender in a county jail. Choose Offender Information and Sentence Information for the state-prison route. Choose Offender Information, County Jail, and Sentence Information for a felony offender held in a county jail. That distinction helps when a Lauderdale jail detainee is serving or awaiting transfer on a felony sentence.
The successful manifest image captures those official choices.
The portal is an inquiry channel, not a live custody roster. For older records, use TDOC Records Management or GovQA and identify the offender, TOMIS number if known, birth date through the secure channel, custody period, and exact date or computation record sought.
TDOC Records Management is at the Rachel Jackson Building, 320 Sixth Avenue North, Nashville, TN 37243-0465. Archived-record questions use 615-253-8079. Archive-search charges may apply, and TDOC says not to prepay because it will send notice after the search is complete.
A focused TDOC request should identify the committed name, TOMIS number if known, custody period, and the exact records sought. Ask TDOC to distinguish release eligibility, sentence expiration or discharge, actual release, parole, and transfer. If sensitive identifiers are needed, send them only through the official secure channel. A public message or copied session link is not an appropriate place for them.
Keep the request, estimate, response, and produced records together. If TDOC says another office is the custodian, ask for that office. If a date is produced without a label or explanation, request a narrow clarification instead of assigning a meaning. This record trail is more dependable than an unofficial sentence calculator.
Lauderdale Jail Release Calculations
No official Lauderdale County Jail good-time policy, weekend adjustment, or Friday-versus-Sunday release rule was found. Do not apply TDOC prison-credit rules automatically to a local misdemeanor sentence. A pretrial detainee has no computed sentence-release date. Bond, a court order, case disposition, and other holds govern when custody may end.
Call Lauderdale County Jail at 731-635-1311 and ask Sheriff Brian Kelley's office for the jail or records custodian. The public location is 675 Highway 51 South, Ripley, TN 38063, but no public counter hours were verified, so call before visiting. Ask for actual release date and time, release authority or type, and destination if a transfer is recorded and public.
Then contact the Circuit or General Sessions clerk at 731-635-0101. Request the docket, bond or release order, judgment, sentence, probation or split-confinement order, and later revocation or discharge entries that apply. A court order establishes legal authority. The jail record establishes operational exit time. Reconcile both, since another hold or transfer may intervene.
The broader Lauderdale County release record search explains how to request the complete jail exit record without asking the sheriff to create a list that does not exist.
Why Lauderdale Release Dates Change
A projected date is a working calculation, not a pickup appointment. It can move as the official record changes. Some changes affect eligibility, some affect physical release, and others affect sentence expiration. The date label tells which milestone is being updated.
| Factor | Possible effect | Record to check |
|---|---|---|
| Earned and retained credits | May affect eligibility within statutory limits | TDOC computation |
| Disciplinary credit loss | Can extend an eligibility date | TDOC sentence and disciplinary record |
| Consecutive sentences or jail credit | Changes the total computation | Judgments and TDOC calculation |
| Detainer or hold | May cause transfer rather than community release | Custodian release destination and receiving agency |
| Parole decision | Can open a conditional release path | Board record and approved plan status |
| New or amended court order | Can change the legal basis for custody | Court docket and judgment |
A parole grant still may await plan approval. Likewise, release from Lauderdale County Jail to TDOC, USMS, ICE, or another jail ends one custodian's control but is not a return to the community. Keep both the exit and receiving-custody timestamps when possible.
Confirm Lauderdale Release Dates
For a state sentence, save the exact FOIL label and source-access date. Retrieve the judgment and offense date, then ask TDOC to explain any ambiguous computation. Compare Board action only when parole is relevant. For a county case, pair the sheriff's exit record with the clerk's order. For federal custody, use the BOP locator and federal docket instead of a county or state tool.
VINELink can add a live custody notice if the matched agency and event participate. Register from the matched record and confirm every alert with the reporting office. The dedicated Lauderdale VINE inmate check covers registration, no-result limits, and why a release alert can still describe a transfer.
Before relying on a future date, ask whether it is eligibility, scheduled release, actual release, or sentence expiration. Also ask whether credits are retained, whether consecutive terms or jail credit are included, whether a detainer exists, and whether a release plan still needs approval. Those questions turn a bare date into a record that can be interpreted safely.
For old TDOC material, an archived record may be the only durable source after a dynamic FOIL field changes or disappears. For a local jail case, the court docket can outlast the jail's operational display. Preserve the source, exact date label, access date, and matching identifier for each record so later updates can be reconciled without blending different people or custodians.
Note: Recheck dynamic portals and agency procedures on the day of use because fields, calculations, and office routing can change.
